Maintenance Officer.- (1) The District Welfare Officer concerned shall be the Maintenance Officer within his territorial jurisdiction for the maintenance of parents and dependants. (2) The Maintenance Officer may make an application under this Act on behalf of an applicant or a minor child (whether or not the applicant is able to do so) or represent such applicant in any proceedings or appeal under this Act. (3) The Maintenance Officer may consult, or direct any of his officers to consult, with the parties concerned in order to assist them to reach agreement by conciliation.
