Duration of assessment.- (1) The State Government shall, when confirming an assessment under sub-section (1) of section 56, fix a period of time for which the assessment shall remain in force. (2) The period fixed under sub-section (1) shall be 2[Forty years]: Provided that-- (i) in order to bring the duration of assessment on a uniform basis within a district the State Government may sanction shorter term for any local area;
