At the time of admission, prisoners shall be directed to obey the prison rules and shall have to perform the following duties, namely: - (a) to obey all lawful orders and instructions issued by the competent prison authorities and persons who help them in the performance of their official duties; (b) to abide by all prison rules and regulations and perform obligations imposed by these rules and regulations; (c) to remain strictly with their groups, in their workplace and within the part of the prison in which they are confined and perform their allotted tasks diligently and carefully; (d) to report any plot or conspiracy and any attempt to escape or preparation for an escape, or an attack upon any prisoner or prison officer, and help the prison officers in case of an attack upon them; (e) not to hold any communication with outsiders, women, civil or under-trial prisoners or prisoners of a class different from their own, or with the guards, beyond such interaction as is necessary; (f) not to gamble or barter within the prison, nor keep animals, birds or other pets; (g) not to play any game (unless generally or specially permitted by the Superintendent) or keep any games-related material or items like a cricket bat, hockey, stumps, volleyball, badminton net or racket etc. with them; rather, these shall have to be deposited with the warder in charge after games activity is over; (h) not to strike, assault or threaten any officer or prisoner; (i) to use government property and those of vendors or contractors in the prison with care and not to damage or destroy the same negligently or willfully; (j) to be alert during the count parade and general parade; (k) not to take any eatables without an order from the food distribution platform or kitchen; (l) not to talk loudly, sing to the annoyance of others or quarrel in any part of the prison; (m) not to leave his bed at night for any purpose without first obtaining the permission of the convict officer, or to sit or lie on any other prisoner’s berth or plinth; (n) not to be a party to any ingress of any prohibited article; (o) to maintain the prescribed standards of cleanliness and hygiene and prison discipline; (p) not to commit any prison offence either minor or major; HARYANA GOVT. (EXTRA.), DEC. 30, 2022 (PAUS. 9, 1944 SAKA) 1231 (q) to respect the dignity and the right to life of every inmate, prison staff and others; (r) to abstain from hurting religious feelings, beliefs, and faiths of other persons; (s) to preserve and promote a congenial correctional environment in the prison; (t) to refrain from making any false or exaggerated complaints/ allegations or conniving in organising any agitation/disruption within the prison; (u) to use the given mechanism of grievance redressal and encourage others too; To not leave his work to make any representation to the prison officer. NOTE. - Prisoner shall be warned that in the event of any riot or violent outbreak, the prison officers are authorized to use appropriate force including lethal force. Prison offences.
