(1) Useful trees shall be largely cultivated along the margins of roads, the boundaries of prison land and other available places where it shall be least likely to interfere with the crops and security of the prison. These trees shall give shade if planted within the prison enclosure but they must not be allowed to be planted near the enclosure walls nor planted so thickly or so near the buildings so as to interfere with free ventilation. (2) No tree on prison land shall be cut down or otherwise removed without the sanction of the Director General. The wood obtained shall, if the tree was grown, - (a) in the prison garden-be utilized for prison purposes or be sold and the proceeds shall be credited to the prison, or (b) sold in any other part of the prison land, the sale-proceeds shall be credited to Government. (3) The Superintendent shall cause to maintain a register of trees in which all trees growing on the prison grounds with a circumference of 1 meter and more measured at the height of 165 cms., shall be entered with their exact location and serial numbers, descriptions, ages, etc. The serial numbers shall be painted on the barks of the trees. Fruit trees such as lime, papaya etc. shall not be numbered but the total number of plants of each variety shall be noted in the register. (4) The Superintendent shall verify the register every year in the month of September. He shall report the result of such verification with full details of the trees cut down and number of new planted trees during the year to the Director General. (5) The State shall invest in drip irrigation, tractors, garden equipments, electric motors and pumps, new crops and seed production, new irrigation methods and even organic farming such as vermi-compost and also biogas plants. A soil analysis shall also be undertaken to enhance production. (6) The State shall encourage horticulture, social forestry, nursery and hanging farm. A plan for growing of fruit orchards like mangoes, citrus fruits shall be undertaken. Medicinal plants, neem trees, etc., may also be grown. (7) Grass shall be grown and trees planted to be kept neatly trimmed. (8) Flowers produced in prisons garden shall be used for beautification and adorn the prison. 1406 HARYANA GOVT. GAZ.
