(1) The Government shall, by notification, constitute a Board of Visitors at District level consisting official members and two non-official members (one male and one female). The non-official members shall be appointed by the State Government through gazette notification. The responsibilities of the Board shall include, - (a) monitoring the correctional work, with special attention to the effectiveness of infrastructure and facilities in the prisons; (b) suggesting new approaches for correctional work, with the object of bringing about improvement therein; and (c) considering individual as well as collective grievances of the prisoners and providing redress in consultation with the prison authorities. (2) The Board of visitors shall be constituted in the districts where a prison is located. Official members.
