The guarding personnel shall consist of Head Warder and Warders. Specific duties of each member of the guarding staff on various duty posts shall be such as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent (Security) in the following areas under the immediate supervision of the Superintendent, - (a) security, custody, and daily routine; (b) search and counting of prisoners; (c) opening and locking-up of the prison; (d) reporting defects and shortcomings in prison buildings, walls, locks, lighting arrangements, bars, including the taking of immediate rectifying action and taking care of the custody of locks and keys, handcuffs and other security equipment; (e) care and welfare of prisoners; (f) maintenance of discipline in prison premises, gates, quarantine enclosures, barracks, dormitories, cells, high security enclosure, worksheds, segregation yards, hospital, kitchen, prison garden and in every other section of the prison; (g) sanitation and hygiene in areas under his charge; (h) escorting prisoners for work, supervision of their work, care and custody of tools, property, equipment, deadstock, and livestock; (i) supervision of distribution of food, canteen articles, and other equipment; (j) assisting the technical personnel in worksheds; (k) reporting violations of discipline to appropriate officers for taking immediate action as per rules; (l) observing habits and behaviour patterns of prisoners and reporting the same to the officer(s) concerned, assisting the prisoners improve their habits and attitudes; (m) taking preventive and control measures for all emergencies; (n) discipline in staff quarters; (o) Physical Training, drill parades, and mock drills etc. Regulation of duties, posting etc.
