(1) No prisoner shall conceal, burn, waste, or transfer to any other prisoner any article of food or drink supplied, at any time, for his own consumption, and every prisoner shall consume his food at the times prescribed for the purpose. (2) Subject to the directions, if any, issued by the Director General in that behalf, the Superintendent shall, from time to time, prescribe the times at which meals are to be served to prisoners and the period within which prisoners are to consume their food including the manner in and place at which the distribution of food is to take place and the like. (3) No prisoner shall refuse to consume the food served from the prison kitchen. Such deliberate refusal of food shall be deemed as a major prison offence. In the event of the refusal of food by a prisoner, the Medical Officer must adopt methods of artificial feeding if, in his opinion, the physical condition is such that artificial feeding provides the only method of keeping the prisoner alive. The actual operation of artificial feeding must be carried out by the Medical Officer or his Medical Subordinate. NOTE.- When a prisoner complains about receiving insufficient quantity of food, the staff member on duty shall immediately weigh the food and if found short, the shortage shall be made good and if the food is not wholesome, such staff member shall inform the Deputy Superintendent (Administration) about the complaint for taking future remedial measures.
