Detenu shall ordinarily be treated by the Medical Officer of the prison. In cases where it is necessary to remove a detenu to a suitable Government institute outside the prison for operation or other special treatment which cannot conveniently be given in the prison itself, the order of Government for such treatment shall be obtained through the Director General of Prisons. In emergent cases, the Superintendent is authorized to anticipate the sanction of the Government but he shall be required to make an immediate report of all cases in which he avails himself of the authority. The Superintendent shall ask the District Police to make arrangements for guarding these detenu during their transport to and stay in a suitable Government institute outside the prison.
