(1) A convict sentenced to simple imprisonment shall not be compelled to labour except by way of punishment, as prescribed in these rules. (2) Provisions shall be made by the Superintendent for the employment (if they so desire) of all convicts sentenced to simple imprisonment (3) Every prisoner sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment, who opts in writing to do labour, shall ordinarily be employed on a labour of a kind that is most suitable for him and for which he is, for the time being, fit. He shall be entitled to wages for such labour at such rates, as may be specified by the Government. (4) If, he expresses a desire in writing at any time to cease work, he shall be permitted to do so.
