(1) Every prisoner shall be examined on the day of his admission under the general or special orders of the Medical Officer, who shall ensure that the Proforma for Health Screening of Prisoners on Admission to Prison circulated by the National Human Rights Commission is duly filled and properly maintained. (2) In case of a female prisoner, the medical examination shall be carried out by female staff under the general or special orders of the Medical Officer. (3) No juvenile shall be admitted to prison. If any prisoner, at time of admission in the prison, appears to be a juvenile in the opinion of the Medical Officer of the prison, intimation in this regard shall be sent by the Superintendent along with the Medical Officer’s report to the court concerned. (4) Any prisoner, at the time of admission in the prison, appears to be mentally ill in the opinion of the Medical Officer of the prison, a request for ascertaining his mental condition as per the procedure established in the Mental Health Care Act, 2017 shall be sent to the authorities concerned.
