Safety Officer:-(1) In every establishment wherein five hundred or more building workers are ordinarily employed, the employer shall appoint Safety Officers as per the scale laid down in Schedule VIII annexed to these rules. Such safety officers may be assisted by suitable and adequate staff. (2) Duties, qualifications and the conditions of service of safety officers appointed under sub-rule (1) shall be as provided in Schedule VIII annexed to these rules. (3) Wherever number of workers employed by single employer is less than five hundred, such employers may form a group and appoint a common Safety Officer for such group of employers with prior permission of Director General.
