Power to make rules for survey, etc. — (1) It shall be lawful for the Government to take all measures for the survey, classification and assessment of all lands, for the preparation and maintenance of land records, including the record of rights and maps and for all other matters connected therewith or incidental thereto, in accordance with such rules as may be made in this behalf. (2) Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, rules may be under this Act, for: (i) the appointment, powers and functions of revenue officers; (ii) the grant, use and relinquishment of unoccupied land; (iii) the survey and classification of land and the assessment and settlement of land revenue payable under any law for the time being in force; (iv) the settlement of boundaries and the construction and maintenance of boundary marks; (v) the preparation and maintenance of records of rights; (vi) the realisation of land revenue or other revenue demands; and (vii) the procedure to be followed by the revenue officers in enquiries under the rules including provisions for appeals and revision. (3) Any such rule may be made with retrospective effect neither from a date nor earlier than the 19th December, 1961. CHAPTER VIII Miscellaneous
