Power of officer to break open door or window.— Any officer, charged within the execution of a warrant, of distress issued under section 146 may, if authorised by a general or special order in writing by the Commissioner between sunrise and sunset break open any outer or inner door or window of a building in order to levy distress— (a) if he has reasonable ground for believing that such building contains property which is liable to such distress, and (b) if after notifying this authority and purpose and duly demanding admittance, he cannot otherwise obtain admittance: Provided that such officer shall not enter or break open the door or window of any apartment appropriated to the use of women until he has given not less than three hours notice of his intention and has given the women an opportunity to withdraw.
