(1) This Act may be called the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. (2) It extends to the whole of India [x x x x]. (3) It shall come into force on such date* as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. Date of commencement: Came into force on dt. 26/10/2006, vide S.O. 1776(E), dt. 17/10/2006, published in the Gazette of India Ext., Part II, Section 3(ii), dt. 17/10/2006. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on 24/08/2005 and by the Rajya Sabha on 29/08/2005 received the assent of the President of India on 13/09/2005. Omitted by Act 34 of 2019. Prior to the omission it reads "except the State of Jammu and Kashmir"
