Punishment for attempts to commit offences.-Whoever attempts to commit any offence punishable under this Chapter or to cause such offence to be committed and in such attempt does any act towards the commission of the offence shall be punishable with the pr.rnishment provided for the offence. Undoubtedly a culprit first intends to commit the offence, then rnakes preparation for committing it and thereafter attempts to commit the offence. If the attempt succeeds, he has committed the offence; if it fails, he is said to have attempted to commit the offence. Attempt to commit an offence, therefore, can be said to begin when the pleparations are complete and the culprit corunences to do something with the intention of committing the offence and which is a step towards the commission of the offence.
