Deposit.— A candidate shall not be deemed to be duly nominated for election from a constituency unless he deposits or causes to be deposited with the Returning Officer a sum of Rs. 25 in cash and where the candidate is of Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe or of a weaker section, a sum of Rs. 5: Provided that, where a candidate has been nominated by more than one nomination paper for election in the same constituency, not more than one deposit shall be required of him under this rule. However, the Chief Election Officer shall be competent to fix amount, from time to time, towards deposits as per aforesaid rule by a candidate in the case of any society or class of societies in consideration of the financial standing, membership etc. by general or special order.
