Section 189

Building for human habitation not to be used as godown, etc. and vice versa.— (1) No person shall without the written permission of the Chief Officer or otherwise than in conformity with the terms of such permission,— (i) use or permit to be used any building or part thereof originally constructed or authorised to be used for human habitation as a godown, warehouse, workshop, workplace, factory, stable or a motor garage; or (ii) use or permit to be used for human habitation any part of a building not originally constructed or authorised to be used for that purpose. (2) if any person contravenes any provision of sub-section (1), he shall, on conviction, be punished with fine which may extend to 356[ten thousand rupees], and in the case of continuing contravention with further fine which may extend to 357[one hundred rupees] for every day after the first during which such contravention continues.
