Entry for inquiry.— Whenever it shall be necessary to make any inquiry or examination in connection with a proposed canal or with the maintenance of an existing canal, the Canal-Officer and any person acting under the general or special order of any such Canal-Officer, may— (a) enter upon such land as he may think necessary for the purpose; (b) exercise all powers and do all things in respect of such land as he might exercise and do, if the Government had issued a notification under the provisions of section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 (Central Act I of 1894), to the effect that the land in that locality is likely to be needed for a public purpose; and (c) set up and maintain water-gauges and do all other things necessary for the prosecution of such inquiry and examination. 1Substituted for the words “thirty” by (Amendment) Act (No. 6 of 1986) (0.
