Penalties for offences not otherwise provided for.— Whoever is guilty of any act or intentional omission in contravention of any of the provisions of this Act, or of any rule or order made under this Act, and not otherwise provided therein shall be punished for each such act or omission with fine which may extend to 115[ten thousand rupees]. 116[35A. Punishment for attempt to commit offences.— Whoever attempts to commit an offence punishable under this Act, or to cause such an offence to be committed, and in such attempt does any act towards commission of such offence, shall be punishable— (a) where the offence is punishable with imprisonment only, with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one half of the longest term of imprisonment provided for such offence, or (b) where the offence is punishable with fine only, with such fine as is provided for the offence, or (c) where the offence is punishable with both imprisonment and fine, with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one-half of the longest term of imprisonment provided for such offence and also with such fine as is provided for such offence].
