Punishment for making false statement

Punishment for making false statement.—Any person who shall, in making 3[any declaration or or other statement] under the authority of this Act, make a statement which is false, and which he either knows or believes to be false, or does not believe to be true, shall, on convictionbefore a Magistrate, be punished by fine not exceeding 1[two thousand] rupees, and imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2[six months].
