Short title, extent and commencement.-(l) This Act may be called the Police Act, 1949. (2) It extends to all the 2[Union Territories]. (3) It shall come into force in a 3[Union Territory] on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint in this behalf for 4[such territory].
