(1) This Act may be called the Factories Act, 1948. [(2) It extends 2 to the whole of India, [x x x x].] (3) It shall come into force on the Ist day of April, 1949. Subs. by A.O. 1950, for the former sub-section. The Act has been extended to the State of Sikkim, videS.O. 142 (E) dated 12th February, 1992, and to Dadra and Nagar Haveli by Reg. 6 of the 1963; to Pondicherry by Reg. 7 of 1963; to Goa, Daman and Diu by Reg. 11 of 1963 and to Lakshadweep vide Reg. 8 of 1965. The words "except the State of Jammu and Kashmir" omitted by Act 51 of 1970.
