(1) This Act may be called the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. (2) It extends to the whole of India [x x x x]. (3) It shall come into force on such date1 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. Came into force on 1-7-1961 vide S.O. 1410, dated 20/06/1961. Omitted by Act 34 of 2019. Prior to the omission it reads "except the State of Jammu and Kashmir"
