(1) The Central Government shall, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify any Government company as the Central Transmission Utility. (2) The Functions of the Central Transmission Utility shall be to-- (a) undertake transmission of energy through inter-State transmission system; (b) discharge all functions of planning and co-ordination relating to inter-State transmission system with-- (i) State Transmission Utilities; (ii) Central Government; (iii) State Governments; (iv) generating companies; (v) Regional Electricity Boards; (vi) Authority; (vii) licensees; (viii) transmission licensees; (ix) any other person notified by the Central Government in this behalf. (3) The Central Transmission Utility shall exercise supervision and control over the inter-State transmission system.] Ins. by Act 22 of 1998, sec. 3 (w.e.f. 31/12/1998).
