After you have served for four years in tho first instance in the Assam Rifles you may extend the term of your service .in the Assam Rifles to six years and on the expiry of six years to eight years and on the expiry of eight years to ten years, in all cases with the permission of the Commandant, with the option of claiming your discharge at the end of any period of extension of service which you may elect to perf@rm, making your application through the officer to whom you may be subordinate, to a Cornman· dant of the Assam Rifles or to the Magistrate of the District in which you may be serving ; and you will be granted your discharge after two months from the date of your application, uoleM you are on active service or unless your discharge would cause the vacancies in the Assam Rifles to exceed one-tenth of the sanctioned strength.
