(1) The State Government shall appoint an Inspector Gener(il of Prisons who shall be the head of the prison organization and operate from the prison headquarters. He shall, subject to the direction and control of the State Government, --- (a) exercise general superintendence and control of all the prisons in the State; (b) plan, organize, direct, co-ordinate and control the various programmes and activities relating to the prisons in the State and the inmates thereof; and (c) exercise such ,other powers and perform such other functions as may be prescribed. (2) The State Government shall appoint such number of Adn1inistrative Officer-cum:.Law Officer as may be considered necessary, who . shall assist the Inspector General . at the prison headquarters and shall, subject to the control of the Inspector General, exercise such powe.rs and perform .such functions of the Inspector General as the State Government · ·may, by rules made under this Act prescribe or by general or special orders direct, or the Inspector General may, subject to the orders of the State Government, delegate.
