In the principal Act, after section 70, the following new section 70A shall be inserted, namely " Res er vation for the offic es of the President and the Vice President of the Zilla Par ishad . 70A (1) Such number of offices of the President and the Vice President of the Zilla Parishad shall be / reserved, for the persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and the number of such offices bearing as nearly as may be the same proportion to the total number of offices in the State as the population of the Scheduled Castes or the Scheduled Tribes in the State bears to the total population of the State, in such manner as may be prescribed. (2) Not less than one-third of the total number of offices reserved under sub-section (1) shall be reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes or the Scheduled Tribes, as the case may be. (3) Not less than one-third (including the number of offices reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes) of the total number of offices of the President and the Vice President of the Zilla Parishad in the State THE ASSAM GAZETTE. Amendment 3 i n the principa l Act, in section 140, in t4 0 S.ec ° n sub-section (1 ), after the existing provision, the follo wing prov iso shall be inserted , namely "Provided that no appointment under this sub-section shall be made by the Chief Executive officer without the prior approval of the State Government."
