In the principal Act, in section 5, in sub-section (1), for of se ct io n 5. the existing second proviso, the following proviso shall be substituted, namely :- "Provided further that the local area of Gaon Assam Act Panchayats declared under the provisions o f the x v il l Assam Panchayat Act, 1994 with a population of 1994. less in number or mo re in numb er than the po pu latio n earm arked in this section shall continue to be valid for the purpo ses of this Act."
