Abetments.-Whoever abets an offence punishable under section 5 or section 6 shall, whether such offence be or be not committed in consequence of such abetment, be punished with the punishment provided for the offence. tt[Whoever, knowing or having reason to believe that an offence has been committed under this Act, causes any evidence of the commission of that offence to disappear or gives any information respecting the offence with the intention of screening the offender from punishment under the Act, or with that intention gives any information respecting the offence which he knows or believes to be false, shall be punished with the punishment provided for the offence. ] tinserted by the Assam Opium Prohibition (Third Amendment) Act, 1951 (Act X of 1951).
