(1) Where the' .ffice of any member falls vacant by reason of his death , resignation, removal or otherwise, the vacancy shall be filled up by election in accordance with the provi<;ion of this /\ct <ind the rules framed thereunder; may be : Provided that any vacancy in the office of the Chief Executive Councillor or the Executive Councillors shall be filled up by the General Council by electing a member thereof in the m anner prescribed for the election of the Chief Executive Councillor or t..c Executive Councillors, as the case may be ; (2) Any rrisrnber elected ii, accol"dance with the provi- sions or sub-section (1) above, shall hold such office only for the remainder of the term of the General Council or the period extr:ncled und .r sub-section (3) of Section 7.
