If any private land whether open Or en- wbhindthe cl°s ed lies, within the prescribed line of a public ime of str-et street and is not occupied by a building or if a platform, verandah, steps, compound wall, hedge or fence or other structure, is within the line of such street, the Authority may, after giving the owner of the land or building a notice of the in tention to do so, take possession of the said land with its enclosing wall, hedge or fence, if any, or of the said platform., verandah, steps, or such Other structure as aforesaid or of the portion cf the said pintform, verandah, steps or other such structure as aforesaid which is within the prescri bed line of the street.
