General rules of coo~truclioa. (. 1) Where any Assam Act is not expressed to come into opl!ration on a particular day, then- (i) i!l the case of an Assam Act made before the commencement of the Constitution, it shall come into operation, if it is an Act of the Legislature, on the day on which the assent thereto of the llovernor, the Governor-Ueoeral or Hts Majesty, as the case may require, is fil'st published in the official Gazette, and if is an Act of the Governor on the day on which it is first published as an Act in the official Gazette ; and (ii) in the case of an Assam Act made after the commencement of tile Constit•Jtion, it shall come into operation on the day on wbit.;h the assent thereto of the Governor or the Prestdent, as the ca~e may require, is first published in the official Gazette. (2) Unless the contrary is expressed, an Act shall be construed as com- ing into opera two immediately oo the expiration of the day preceding its commencement. NOlES Section 5.
