(1) Every Councillor shall before taking his affirmation' s e a t m a ^e a n ^ subscribe at a meeting of the Cor by Council- potation an oath or affirmation according to the l»n. following form, namely:— “ I, A. B. having been elected a Councillor of the Municipal Corporation of the city of Gauhati do swear in the name of God/ solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of — India as by law established and that I will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter.” (2) If a person sits or votes as a Councillor before he has complied with the requirements of sub-section (1) he shall be liable in respect of each day on which he so sits or votes to a penalty of two hundred and fifty rupees to be recovered as an arrear of tax under this Act.
