The University shall have the following powers and functions, namely:- (1) to provide for instruction in agriculture and other allied branches of learning as the University may deem fit ; (2) to make provisions for conduct of research in agriculture and allied branches of learning; (3) to make provision for dissemination of the findings of research and technical information through an extension education programme; (4) to institute degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions ; (5) to institute courses of study and hold examinations for and confer degrees, diplomas, certificate and other academic distinctions on persons who have pursued a course of study as prescribed or carried out research in the University or institution recognised in this behalf by the University as may be prescribed; (6) to confer honorary degrees and other distinctions as, may be prescribed; (7) to provide lectures and instruction for field workers, village leaders and other persons not enrolled as regular students of the University and to grant certificates to them as may be prescribed;
