Punishment for committing mischief causing damage to property by fire or explosive substance : Whoever commits or instigates, incites or otherwise abets mischief by fire or any explosive substance intending to cause or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby cause, damage to any property, shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than one year but which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to three lakhs rupees : Provided that the Court may, for any adequate and special reasons to be recorded in the judgement, impose a sentence of imprisonment for a term of less than one year.
