Any person who- a. makes any fresh clearing prohibited by section 7, or b. sets fire to a reserved forest, or in contravention of any rules made by the [State)1 Government, kindles any fire, or leaves any fire burning, in such manner as to endanger such a forest, or who in any such forest, c. kindles, keeps or carries any fire except at such seasons and in such manner as Forest Officer specially empowered in this behalf may from time to time notify, or d. fells, cuts, girdles, marks, lops, taps or injures by fire or otherwise any tree, or e. quarries stone, bums lime or charcoal, or collects, subjects to any manufacturing process or removes any forest produce, or f. clears or breaks up any land for cultivation or any other purpose, or g. poisons water or, in contravention of any rules made by the [State]1 Government, hunts, shoots, fishes or sets traps or snares, *[shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which is not less than one year but may extend to three years or with fine which may extend to five thousand rupees or with both.] *{Substituted by 2005 (Amd) Act (Act no 2 of 2008. s.4}
